Helping Hands of St. Johns County

Helping Hands will meet on July 31st in Hastings at Johnny and Beannies Restaurant to present our Southwest neighbors, farmers and workers with the socks collected during the sock drive which will end on July 30. Socks are currently being collected at the clubhouses at St. Johns Golf and Country Club, Cimarrone, and Heritage Landing or by contacting jacqphil@aol.com . New athletic socks, short or tall will help protect the feet of the people who work hard to put food on our tables. We will carpool from First Florida Credit Union at 10AM for anyone needing a ride.

Pictured above are 2 new moms to be who were honored at a baby shower held for military active or reserved duty service women at the May shower. Lisbeth Quinn from the USO explained what the USO does in the area, and all women received a handmade blanket, clothing and other baby essentials and gifts. Publix donated diapers, wipes, baby food and other baby needs. The women were treated to a wonderful lunch, door prizes and games. It was fun to see the excitement when the gifts were opened.

We will be meeting again back at Faith Community Church on August 28th at 10AM. Helping Hands will be gearing up for its holiday project, which this year will be Snacks from Santa. Helping Hands will be partnering with First Florida Credit Union and Winn Dixie to provide a Christmas Stocking filled with healthy snacks and a treat or two for children from the Florida School for Deaf and Blind, Commmunity Peds, Buckingham Smith Nursing Home and other needy children in the area. A list will be provided of needed items. No toys, candy canes, peanut or peanut products, please. Anyone wishing to donate a new stocking which can be filled, can use email address above. First Florida will be providing stockings and they can than be picked up there or at Winn Dixie to be filled and returned  by December 15th. More information will follow, but at August meeting we will be decorating stockings to be given out to the community. Girl Scout Troops are invited to take part or any neighborhood organization  or youth group who would like to help is encouraged to do so. This is a great way to get the kids involved.

Helping Hands meets the last Friday of the month to do a small project for the community at Faith Community Church at 10AM at 3450 CR210West next to Cimarrone.. There are no dues, officers or stress. Members come when they can and do what they can with what is donated. .There is no monetary donation involved and the group relies solely on donations of goods and services.
